Pokémon GO: Medals

When Pokémon GO first introduced Medals into the game, they were the game’s version of Achievements.  The Medals were a nice acknowledgement that you had done something significant in-game.

In October of 2016, Niantic changed what the Medal notifications looked like – and changed how the Medals worked.  They were still a nice recognition of things you had achieved.  Now,  some of the Medals are also something a player could earn that would improve his or her gameplay.

In this blog, I have screenshots of the Medals I earned back when they functioned like Achievements.  I also have added what the “new” Medals look like.  I will add to this blog whenever I earn a new Medal.

I’m going to start this...

Pokémon GO: PokéStops in Downtown San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo, a town that has been called the “happiest city in America” has plenty to offer – including several PokéStops that are conveniently located downtown.  It is an excellent place to play Pokémon GO!

In this blog, I have photos of what the various PokéStops that are located in downtown San Luis Obispo, California, look like. The blog will be updated as I find more of them.

Pokémon GO: Leveling Up

Pokémon GO, like many other video games, allows players to level up their character.  All you need to do is keep playing the game as you usually would and gather experience points.  No matter how you play, you will be able to level your character.

Personally, I just play the game and have fun and figure I’ll reach a new level whenever it happens.  I’m sure there must be ways to maximize your ability to level and to do it in the most efficient way possible.

In this blog, I have screenshots from when my character leveled up in Pokémon GO.  I will add more to this blog when I reach a new level.

Pokémon GO: Gotta Catch ‘Em All

The main goal of Pokémon GO is to “catch ’em all”. Players attempt to fill their Pokédex by catching at least one of each type of Pokémon.

There are three ways to obtain Pokémon.  The easiest way is to walk around outside and throw Pokéballs at whatever Pokémon appear.  Another way is to incubate an egg.  When you walk the required amount of kilometers, the egg will hatch a Pokémon.  The third way is to use candy to evolve one type of Pokémon into its other forms.

This blog contains screenshots of all the different types of Pokémon I’ve caught. (It will be updated as needed).

My very first Pokémon w...

Pokémon GO: Safety Tips

Pokémon GO has become incredibly popular in a short span of time. The game has attracted players of all ages and in many countries. I’ve been enjoying the stories people post online about how Pokémon GO has been influenced people to go outside, get some exercise, and talk to other players.

The thing to keep in mind, of course, is that playing a virtual reality game requires you to frequently look at your phone. This is causing some people to forget that they need to be aware of their surroundings in order to stay safe (and uninjured). As a result, there has been a bunch of Pokémon GO safety tips posted on Twitter by a variety of organizations.

Pokémon GO: Getting Started

Pokémon GO is a game created by Niantic (the same company that made Ingress).  Pokémon GO was incredibly popular from the moment it launched.  Servers crashed as a multitude of players tried to log in and play.  This isn’t unusual when any popular new game is first released.

What makes this game so popular is that it is easy to play and it taps into the nostalgia that so many people have about the Pokemon series of games.  The big difference here, other than the updated graphics, is that in order to play Pokémon GO – you have to go outside and walk around.

In this blog, I have a quick explanation of how to get started playing Pokémon GO.

For me, Pok...
